Do I need a referral from my doctor to come to physical therapy? You do not need a referral or prescription from your doctor to start physical therapy. In Florida, patients can be seen for 30 days through direct access for a condition that was not previously assessed by a healthcare practitioner. After 30 days, the client must go to a healthcare practitioner and be provided a prescription. So this means you can start being seen by a Doctor of Physical Therapy and getting back to the activities that you love quicker.
